Recently I’ve been having a discussion with my brother Peter regarding Quantum Physics. He has recently been drawn into the quantum world. At the moment he is favouring Einstein’s theory that there is an objective reality : “I like to think the moon is there even if I am not looking at it.” I’m not so sure but at the same time I see it as a sign that people who would normally not get involved in metaphysics and spirituality are having to ask questions and being drawn into the whirlpool.

At about lunch time the Premier Mark McGowan gave a speech on the radio saying they had found a young man supervising Hotel quarantine
to have been diagnosed with Covid-19. As a result of this the government was going to lockdown Perth and the Peel Region at 6pm for a week.

The Rebel came up in conversation yesterday with a Wi Fi engineer over a cup of tea. That’s not allowed either. Shouldn’t have made him a cup of tea and he had to lower his mask to drink it. Also to be noted is that World’s Fairs had been going since 1844. Construction techniques and logistics for construction for such events would have been learnt and refined. And as far as tools and machinery goes, it was the Industrial Revolution; innovation was going on all the time. It reminds me of the Olympics and each host city trying to outdo the previous one. I know the London 2012 Games used plenty of temporary buildings, so it can be done.

On balance, I’m not inclined to believe that there were hidden ancient Roman ruins there beforehand and that the Expo was a facade for that. I do believe, however, in the industriousness and zeal of the Victorians to get things done.
Both vids were interesting in their own ways, but in the long slide show vid, as soon as the speaker mentioned “swamp”, it immediately struck a chord with me as to why there’d be plenty of interest in a land reclamation project. And at the time, there were already plenty of people in the world who were excellent at both reclaiming land and building massive structures on piers.
The bit about stucco is what shocked me the most. Basically, you’ve got these big empty spaces that are surrounded by four walls, a roof and a floor with a temporary facade that looks quite impressive on the outside but it’s all basically fake. No stone. Wood, iron, steel, bricks and glass to basically keep the rain off of the displays. And that’s not to detract from the artisans either because the whole thing is extremely impressive.
Like a wedding cake I guess. Looks fucking grand on the outside, but it’s only gonna look that way for a very little while, and on the inside it’s just…cake.
And as far as labor? Hell…can you imagine getting a guaranteed contract for two years of work then? The population of Chicago had doubled from 1880 to 1890 (I assume mainly because the Union Stockyards were just in the beginning of their real heyday) so I’d bet labor wouldn’t have been a problem. Was just brainstorming angles to consider with respect to how exactly this all came together. Sounds like most of the contractors were foreign, so that means they likely were able to recruit plenty of labor from their own countries, and the workers prolly signed up in droves. Two years work? In America? Hell, it’s 2021 and I know I’d shit myself if someone offered me two years of work right now. Prolly a lot of people in the same boat. That means that labor rules can kinda be overlooked since people are willing to forgo certain protections and maybe even rights for a chance to earn a living.
Me? I’m still pondering heading to West Africa so I can hook up with some human traffickers who can get me into Italy illegally and I can work in the tomato fields there.
