What Is A Wattle ?

Built in 1803 as two residences above an area used to store the wattle pens used for the annual sheep fair on the green. The residences continued in use until they were condemned as uninhabitable in the late 1950s. By that time the old wattle pens had given way to those made from metal which were light enough to bring in on transport. Subsequently, the building has been boarded up ever since though it has been used during the annual sheep fair for other storage.
