I was very passionate about music up until Duran Duran showed up with Rio. For me that was when ‘pop’ music became safe and part of the entertainment biz rather than dangerous and a force for change. There’s still plenty of music that I like but it’s lost that edge. Over here the musicians end up Sir or Dame this and that and in USA they get invited to the White House.
Had a friend in the music biz and he traces the day the music died to the mid 90s when the record companies stopped being run by musicians and the number crunchers took over.
