I went to three Church schools so yes, I am aware of the Gospels. Maybe an early introduction to the bigger picture when I got to about the age of 14 I started asking whether any of the Bible was real. If there is any reality to it, the story has been bent to suit IMO.
I don’t denigrate the Christ as a reality. I think it is probably our true nature. I go with what rings true to me.
My path led me to divorce and separation from my daughter and other nasties. Extraordinarily difficult but at the same time there was something more going on so I went with it and there seems to be a reason for all the hard stuff.

To repent in my humble opinion means a complete radical change of thinking leading you to about turn 180 degrees and head in the opposite direction. It leads you to completely change your mind/direction/life/purpose. To leave the old life and way of thinking behind. To die to the self/ego that is holding us back, that is holding us prisoner, that keeps us divided.
That negative voice in our heads which keeps us in fear, guilt, anger, jealousy and selfishness
This thing within us has no love or compassion for others it is like an empty shell ey or void. It is afraid of the light because it doesn’t understand it, because it has never known the true unconditional love of God.
What all this amounts to is that there is good evidence that the primary idea of repentance is a change of mind.
How do we accomplish this is the main question? Only by receiving new information, new divine truths that enlighten us. We receive this new information from the Holy Spirit…from God.
Several dictionaries make mention that new information or understanding is often involved (Strong’s, Thayer, Easton’s, Liddel & Scott), which leads to the change of mind.
This is why the typical definition of the word is: “change of mind based on new information or understanding.” This is universal and applicable to all uses of the word.
Some synonyms which may convey the gravity of repentance slightly better would be “rethink, reconsider, or think again.” You rarely see a use of repentance where the change of mind was of little significance.
