The Hunger Games

Chaos Theory.

From Wiki :

‘Chaos theory is a branch of mathematics focusing on the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions. “Chaos” is an interdisciplinary theory stating that within the apparent randomness of chaotic complex systems, there are underlying patterns, constant feedback loops, repetition, self-similarity, fractals, self-organization, and reliance on programming at the initial point known as sensitive dependence on initial conditions. The butterfly effect describes how a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state, e.g. a butterfly flapping its wings in Brazil can cause a hurricane in Texas.’

  1. Wine on Mars? The World’s Oldest Wine-Making Country Wants to Make It Happen

    The first wine on Mars
The new space wine project will kick off later this year with the installation of “vertical greenhouses” inside a hotel in the capital city of Tbilisi, according to Georgian news agency Agenda.ge. There, floor-to-ceiling pods of soil and seeds (including grapes, strawberries and arugula) will be left to grow under hydroponic lights with minimal human interference, simulating the possible conditions of a controlled agriculture pod on Mars.

In the meantime, Georgian wine experts are hard at work trying to figure out which grape varietals might best survive harsh Martian conditions. Over the next few years, researchers at Tbilisi’s Business Technology University plan to simulate a Martian environment in the laboratory, exposing soil samples to subzero conditions, high carbon monoxide levels and thin air meant to mimic the atmospheric pressure at “20,000 feet [6,000 meters] altitude on Earth,” The Washington Post reported.

These experiments likely will not bear fruit until at least 2022, but scientists already have a hunch that white wine will fare best on the Red Planet.

“Whites tend to be more resistant to viruses,” Levan Ujmajuridze, director of Georgia’s vineyard Laboratory, told The Washington Post. “So, I’d imagine they’ll do well against radiation, too. Their skin could reflect it.”

  2. Physicists Built a Machine That Breaks the Normal Rules of Light
    https://www.space.com/43001-weird-light-ring.html?utm_source=notification
    https://img.purch.com/h/1400/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5zcGFjZS5jb20vaW1hZ2VzL2kvMDAwLzA4Mi8yMDUvb3JpZ2luYWwvbGlnaHQuanBn
Physicists have built a ring in which pulses of light whip circles around each other and the normal rules that govern light’s behavior no longer apply.

Under normal circumstances, light displays certain kids of physical symmetry. First, if you were to play a tape of light’s behavior forward and then backward, you would see it behave in the same way moving in both directions in time. This is called time-reversal symmetry. And second, light, which can move through the world as a wave, has what is called polarization: how it oscillates relative to the motion of the wave. That polarization usually stays the same, providing another type of symmetry.

But inside this ring-shaped device, light both loses its time-reversal symmetry and changes its polarization. Inside the ring, light waves turn circles and resonate with one another, producing effects that don’t normally exist in the outside world.

Researchers already knew that, under certain circumstances, when light is bouncing around inside optical rings, it can lose its time-reversal symmetry. The peaks of its waves don’t turn up at the point that symmetry dictates they should inside the optical ring. But in a new paper, published Thursday (Jan. 10) in the journal Physical Review Letters, a team from the National Physical Laboratory showed that this can happen at the same time as spontaneous changes in polarization.

                    1. Are you watching Bird Box, Jenny? Fucking predictive programming but in which direction? There’s a sarcastic play on the internet religion’s exhortation to ”stay woke” and ”open your eyes to the truth”.

                    2. Funny how the kids in BB are named “Boy” and “Girl” and their pets are “Dog” and “Cat” and they don’t look but listen to the language of the birds.

                    3. Anon…

Frank and I watched it on Saturday. And yeah, a call to feel your way through the dark. Always feel like there will be a pop quiz on Friday over what’s been learned so far and my life hinges on it. Surely God’s not that much of an asshole.

  3. China for the first time in the history of space exploration germinated cotton on the moon

A small sprout rose on the moon – for the first time in the history of astronautics – from cotton seed aboard a Chinese lunar landing gear, scientists said yesterday, on Tuesday.

This shoot was born in a special structure resembling a lattice that is located inside a container aboard the Chang’e-4 landing gear that landed on the lunar surface earlier this month, according to a series of images provided by the Institute for Advanced Technology Studies of Chongqing University.

In this experiment, for the first time in the history of space exploration, plants were grown on the surface of the moon.

The Chang’e-4 probe, named after the goddess of the Moon, made the world’s first landing on the “dark side” of the Moon on January 3, which was the most important stage in the development of Chinese astronautics.

Researchers from Chongqing University sent on board this device the “lunar minibiosphere”, which is an 18-centimeter container resembling a bucket containing air, water, and soil.

Cotton, potato and Arabidopsis seeds (plants of the cabbage family) are planted in this container, as well as fruit fly eggs and yeast.

  4. Chaos in the body tunes up your immune system
https://medicalxpress.com/news/2019-01-chaos-body-tunes-immune.html Chaos in bodily regulation can optimize our immune system according to a recent discovery made by researchers at the University of Copenhagen’s Niels Bohr Institute. The discovery may prove to be of great significance for avoiding serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

Wide gaps exist in our understanding of how the immune system works and how we might avoid diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Now, two researchers at the University of Copenhagen’s Niels Bohr Institute have made a discovery that could prove to be an important piece of the puzzle. Ph.D. Mathias Heltberg and Professor Mogens Høgh Jensen have found an entirely new mechanism in the way that bodily cells regulate themselves – through chaos.

The researchers investigated how a particular protein produced within cells, NF-kB, stimulates genes. Among other things, this particular protein is vital for maintaining the body’s immune defense system and thereby, the body’s ability to combat disease. The concentration of NF-kB fluctuates over time, and these swings impact the genes and subsequently, the condition of cells.

  5. There was a small earthquake off the east coast of the US yesterday near Washington DC.

Waiting for the declaration of the National emerging C. 😃

  6. There was a fast food, oops, I mean flash flood warning here last night as it’s been raining and raining. The automatic massage said something like avoid berder areas where the swells have touched down.

Hugo, this man kind missing link looks a lot like one of the Kardashians. She has an ‘artificial’ body that’s “neither good nor bad”. It’s put out by JC -James Cameron- and features JC -Jennifer Connelly- sporting a third eye symbol. It’s fashion, baby!

There’s a weird weather event predicted for eastern US this weekend. Winter storm Harper.
Snow followed by rain followed by snow followed by rapidly dropping temperatures they’re calling a ‘flash freeze’.

Flash freeze. Freeze frame. Say cheese.
Smile you’re on candid camera. 🕵

    1. That it rigs the game, so you end up ‘warshipping’ the ‘ghost in the machine’ one way or another.

““It didn’t look right, smell right, sound right,” Fort said during a hearing last year for a Fitzgerald officer facing court-martial in the wake of the June 17, 2017, disaster. After gazing at the gash in the hull through which gushed the seawater that drowned the Fitz’s dead, Fort and his team of investigators walked to the destroyer’s electronic nerve center, the combat information center everyone calls the ‘CIC’. It hadn’t taken a direct hit from the bow of the Philippine-flagged ACX Crystal, but it was trashed nonetheless and smelled like urine.”

Gazing at the gash…the ‘money shot’.

      1. “That it rigs the game, so you end up ‘warshipping’ the ‘ghost in the machine’ one way or another. ”

Sounds about right. I always wondered about the printing press and why it was ”sooooo” important.

    1. Roob

Google have been adjusting the algorithm for some time to suit themselves.

On here I used to have some success with tags and categories etc but then the likes of Merovee were listed a long way below BBC News and restaurants and hotels about three years ago when the Algae Rhythm was altered. Don’t bother much anymore.

    2. You carn’t tell me this ain’t one ov them conspirawotsits puppetrated by them weak and cowardly Due Boys!
